Introducing the game God Of War Ragnarok

God of War: Ragnarok is coming to PS5 and PS4 on November 9, 2022, after being delayed from its original 2021 release window.

Before this update from the PlayStation Blog, Ragnarok was the subject of much speculation (opens in new tab). PlayStation Studios head Herman Halst later confirmed the delay in an interview with the PlayStation Blog in June 2021, stating that the sequel would be pushed to 2022 to give the team at Sony Santa Monica more time after the disruption caused by the pandemic. get stuck

After this, many later believed that God of War: Ragnarok had also been pushed back to 2023, but thankfully the June 2022 update proved otherwise. Assuming there are no last-minute delays, the long-awaited sequel is finally in sight.

The story and scenes of God of War Ragnarok for PS5

God of War: Ragnarok is the sequel to God of War (2018) and the latest entry in the series' Norse saga.

The July 2022 update to the PlayStation Store has provided our best look yet at the game's story. The description reads: "Fimbulwinter is well underway" (opens in new tab). Kratos and Atreus must travel to each of the nine realms in search of answers as Asgardian forces prepare for a prophesied battle that will end the world.

Along the way, they will discover legendary and stunning landscapes and face fearsome enemies in the form of Norse gods and monsters. The threat of Ragnarok looms ever closer. Kratos and Atreus must choose between their safety and the safety of the realms.

Elsewhere, the description suggests that Ragnarok will pick up the main narrative thread that was left hanging in the first one. We will help Atreus as he "searches for knowledge to help him understand Loki's prophecy and establish his role in Ragnarok."

God of War: Ragnarok not only expands on Atreus and Kratos' relationship, but also in terms of setting. This time, players will be able to visit all nine realms, including the previously inaccessible Vanaheim, Svartalfheim, and Asgard—as well as new areas from locations featured in the previous game. Exploring the realms will allow you to all It takes place. Lush and ethereal forests to complex underground mineral networks."

The final giant among these new realms is Asgard - home of the gods of the Æsir and seat of power in Norse mythology. In many ways, it is the largest and most central of them all, where the most well-known gods of the Aesir reside.

It is divided into several regions. Valhalla is ruled by Odin, so we can enter the Golden Hall. Bilskírnir, meanwhile, serves as the seat of Thor, who has already been confirmed to appear in the game.

There are still questions, including how much of these realms we'll see. There's a chance we'll be able to explore a new area of Midgard and maybe even return to Kratos' forest home. Hopefully we'll be able to cover more Muspelheim and Niflheim than the first game allowed.

God of War Ragnarok gameplay

As far as the gameplay is concerned, it is quite natural that the combat of God of War: Ragnarok is of great importance to many fans of the series.

According to a post on the official PlayStation blog (opens in new tab) in September 2021, the battle will be more "visceral" and include "spectacular" combat, with "new attack abilities, new Runic summons for Atreus, and of course, the return "Legendary Weapons of Kratos". Santa Monica Studios says it learned from God of War 2018 to improve combat, with the goal of creating more player choice:

"Whether it's through hard combos, elemental mastery, or clever defensive tactics - you'll find plenty of opportunities to fight alongside our duo in a way that feels uniquely yours."

In an interview with Game Informer (opens in new tab) in August 2022, lead combat designers Mihir Sheth and Danny Yeh said that combat revolves around the idea of "Kraitos playing with his food". Sheth said the team “tried to create systems that you want to engage with that are fun, very playful, and multi-track. And when we looked at the fight in the last game, we were like, "We can take this further." We can find new toys and ways to play with enemies and strategies. That has been the guiding principle more than anything else."

As part of that, the previously used triangle button has been given a new purpose. This button gets a new set of attacks called "Weapon Signature Moves". Depending on whether you have the Leviathan Ax or Blades of Chaos equipped, Kratos will "infuse sharpened steel with ice or fire" to use additional elemental moves called "Frost Awaken" and "Whiplash".

According to director Eric Williams in an interview with God of War YouTuber John Ford, Ragnarok also offers players a little more variety in the shields that can be used.

When Ford pointed out that there are moments in a recent trailer where Kratos' guardian shield appears to have a different design and Kratos uses it in different ways, Williams said that's true and that while he " Deep down, the game will have different shields and they have different defensive options and abilities.

William explained that this is because he and the team at Santa Monica Studios "really want to open up a clear choice for the way you build your Kratos, like gear, loadouts, things like that."

"It comes down to the defense, so you can play a little bit differently and opponents know how to react to that, or force you into these different situations where you have to use different things," Williams added. "I think that's going to be fun for players to explore, but we also want it to be more expressive, you know, the choices you make when you're setting him up."

Santa Monica Studios has also revealed that God of War Ragnarok will retain accessibility features from God of War (2018) and add new items that will allow players to customize the gameplay in over 60 ways.

"Not only have we redesigned our user interface for greater flexibility and readability, we've also rebuilt the controller remapping from the ground up and added more customization to our combat and interaction systems," a PlayStation blog post revealed.
